Abstract
The purpose of this project is to design and build an efficient millimetre wave power detector using a schottky diode, at a frequency range of 1 to 10 GHz. The basic aim is to design a matched schottky detector which is sensitive to input power. A low barrier schottky diode is used for improve detector sensitivity.
The schottky detector consists of a schottky diode and a microstrip transmission line. A schottky diode is embedded in microstrip line for power detection, where RF power will be coupled to the schottky diode through a transition from coplanar waveguide to microstrip. In order to achieve maximum power transfer from power source to schottky diode, a transition from coplanar wave guide to microstrip transmission line via smooth impedance transition is required to minimize impedance mismatch at the waveguide-microstrip interface. This matching allows maximum RF power.
