To whomever can answer...
I am designing a negative gm cross coupled oscillator in cadence. I have a satisfactory result, however I would like to provide the hand calculations with the paper I am writing for a class on how I designed the oscillator. I know this is a bass ackwards way of doing this...
my problem is finding the Q value of the tank circuit. I am using the NCSU_Analog_Library standard, NOT parasitic, type inductor. So how do I find the parasitic series resistance. I would think that it would be sqrt( R^2+jwL^2) with no real resistance.... but this just leads to a Q of 1 no matter what L value I use. I know for a fact that is does make a difference because I have measured the freq_jitter using the calculator and found as the inductor value increases, my jitter goes down. Should I use the Rs values from the varactor models I have chosen... or can I assume 1... I am not sure how to proceed.
I suppose I just need to know if there is a series real resistance associated with the NCSU CDK inductor. If not, what should I use in hand calcs so that things make sense.. a Rp of 0 gives a Q of infinity, which we all know isn't true
Thanks in advance for your help
