Re: Output signal filtering

I am trying to build a 40M SSB transceiver. The output signal is difficult to measure because I don't have a fast enough scope or a spectrum analyser. I have been measuring with a high frequency probe and a frequency counter. I can tell that there are some other signals presetn in the out put such as a little bit og the LO and perhaps some harminics of the IF, but if the desired frequency is there , wouldn't I pick it up on a receiver tuned to that frequency, if it was modulated properly (or at least pick up the carrier)? I'm working on the filtering as I can get partts, but I think I might be getting the carrier on the receiver, but no voice when I talk into the mic. I have IF and audio getting to the first mixer at what appear to be good amplitudes and IF (modulated?) and LO get to the second mixer. The 7MHz signal is a little unstable but it is there on the output. What could be wrong. Something with the modulator mixer for IF and uadio? Any suggestions?

As an afterthought, could it be that the IF oscillator is overdriving the buffer amp so the signal is already rail to rail before the mixer. I don't meassure a signal that large on the mixer input, but perhaps my homemade high frequency probe is not accurate. I tried attenuating the IF oscillator with a voltage divider, but I got more LO leakage back into the IF oscillator output and no improvement in modulation (no sign of modulation).
