Inductance calculation of a two-port active inductor

Dear friends,

I am trying to simulate an active inductor. Can someone please tell me how I can calculate the inductance of a two-port active inductor, doing an S-parameter analysis? I have tried, but am not getting the desired plots. Any help would be highly appreciated; this is kind of important!

Each inductance - passiv or active - can be found by simulating the impedance with division by ω. When the device is lossy, take the imaginary part only.

Thanks LvW! But by impedance, do you mean the Z-parameters? i have tried Re(Z(1 1)) for resistance and Im(Z(1 1))/ω for the inductance, but i am getting really weird results for inductance. I have also found some suggestions to using Im(1/Y(1 1))/ω for inductance - does that work? Also, in that case, what would be the resistance, Re(Z(1 1)) or Re(1/Y(1 1))?

using which simulation tool ?

AWR has the direct measurement for L and C
like S11.

The problem isn't actually clear. Obviously, a two-port S-parameter measurement of an "active inductor" containts the inductance,
but also unwanted common mode parameters of the circuit. Depending on the inductance level and other parameters, the
measurement acuracy may be limited as any impedance measurement by S-parameters.

But what's your intention? Extract the inductance and ignore the other parameters? If the other parameters don't
matter, you can also short one port and perform a usual single port impedance measurement.

hi,

i am using cadence 0.35μm process for the simulation.

my motive is to plot the inductance, resistance and quality factor of an active inductor, varying with frequency. i have done an S-parameter analysis of the inductor, but am unsure about how to proceed from there.

thanks so much for al your help!

Kas
