dispersion simulation

Dear friends,
I'm Anas Abumunshar, student at unversity of brodgeport,CT.
I want to do a simulation using the matlab for the following, however, i know no thing on Matlab:
1- generate a pulse of 1 nano second width.
2- entering this pulse into a dispersion element which do dispertions similar to the optical fiber.
3- then i want to split the orginal pulse (which has no dispersion) into two frequency bands, and delay the low frequencies band , then sum the two bands together.
If any one can help me i will be so appreciat.
