How to select specifications for antenna design ?

i tried the patch and loop antenna using the specified parameters that r given in ADS .PLS........ can any one guide me in designing PIFA and also i did not know how to start up with the antenna specifications,is there any standard design procedure....how can we select the length, width,height,substrate etc......pls guide me...give me any suggessions how to proceed.
