Looking for a RF power limiter for Astro DC-30 collars
The system uses Murs for a transmitting frequency. 151.820-154.600
I have an external antenna on my truck and when someone near me talks on a 2 meter radio it frys my Astro.
I was wondering if there is an in line RF power limiter with BNC connectors that I could install on my antenna cable to limit the RF power coming.
I was told that the Astro DC-30 collars transmit at 2 watts.
Any ideas?
keep in mind.... Any attenuator you put in the coax line to limit close strong transmitters will also attenuate the much weaker dog collar transmitter signals by the same amount. which means you wont have the same longer distance tracking range.
Now, when you say it "Fries" your astro receiver. qualify that statement. is it just desensing the receiver whilst you are closer to the stronger transmitter ? or is it physically damaging the receiver front end that it needs workshop repair ?
if the RF level is physically damaging the receiver front end components then maybe its a pretty low cost poor design unit.
If it is just desensing your Astro receiver then it indicates a poorly designed receiver but at least can be partially overcome by the use of a hi pass filter in your receiver coax line immediately at the connector input to your receiver.
I can have a standard 50Watt 2metre radio transmitting right beside my other 2metre radios with absolutely no ill effect ( and thats on the same freq !) You are on a freq that is up to 8MHz away from those transmitters.

Minicircuits has some coaxial limiters at reasonable prices. they are constructed with two diodes across hot to ground in both directions. I am surprised at your total failure in your receiving system. There is so much loss with just a few m of distance that it appears that a few mW will damage your receiver.
If you are economical, you can make your own limiter with schottky diodes.
