metamaterial based designing of rectangular microstrip antenna

i want to design a metametarial based rectangular microstrip antenna.so can anyone guide me here. i mean from where and how shud i start. what 1st step should i do to start my project

you can simulate in ADS, or AWR, or HFSS. You can search in web for some training course.
