Some Link Budget Terms

Hi guys,

I am currently working on the link budget for both uplink and downlink between the ground station and satellite. I came across a lot of terms which I don't really understand. Can anyone help me?

1) Ground Station to Spacecraft polarisation losses - As I never really study antenna, so I don get quite get this. All I know is that the VHF uplink antenna is cross
yagi RHCP, and the spacecraft antenna is 2 monopoles in this configuration.

2) Telemetry System Required Eb/No - I have read the online description for this, but I still don't understand it. Any simpler way of explaining this?

3) Eb/No Threshold - What is the difference between this and the Telemetry System Required Eb/No?

4) Filter Insertion Losses - I don't know what is this and what is the typical value for both the uplink and downlink for it?

2). Telemetry is for protocol control command of the both terminals, i.e. the ground station and satellite. The Eb/N0 is determined by the telemetry command modulation. What's your modulation?
3). This is for data telecomm. The Eb/N0 is also determined by the modulation.
4). The uplink may have several filter, such as filter followed by the mixed, etc. what is the filter position? And what filter type it is?
The downlink filter maybe pre-select filter. It's also determined by the position and type.
You should provide more messages and photos.

Hi, I have quite little info with this since I am only working on the communication board. Most of my info are gotten either from my project manager or from previous projects of a similar type.

2 & 3) The modulation I am using is AFSK.

4) I am not involve in the direct design of the system itself. So what I did was to ask my project manager about it. And what he told me is that for all the signal path, is either just straight from the transmitter to antenna/antenna to LNA to antenna. I was also quite surprised that he told me there wasn't any filter.
