confusion in setting meshing frequency and cells per wave length in ie3d

hello
i m so much confuse in setting the meshing frquency and cells per wavelength in my antenna. i have design a microstrip antenna and i have set the meshing frequency 3 and cells per wavelenth 16 but default value of cells per wavelength is 20 but it was not taking 20 and was giving some error "allocating matrix failed"
and at 16 cells per wavelength it took almost 6 hours to complete the simulation.
well, i m getting very good results but still confused that did i set the mesing frequency and cells per wave length correctly.

so i want someone to set meshing frequency and cells perwave length for me if i send the design to him and after seting frequency and cells per wavelength send me back then i will simulate my self.

i will b very thankful to him

regards
sameer

Hello Sameer,

You should set the meshing frequency equal or above the highest frequency you will use in your simulation.

The cells/wavelength is default 20 (from my head) and is calculated based on the meshing frequency. The actual value you need depends on how current density changes with distance.

Look into the help file for how to mesh a structure. You can mesh single polygons during editing (with smaller mesh size), while the rest (for example a ground plane not close to other current carrying structures), you can mesh with a larger size. This will save you simulation time.

To see how the simulator meshes, you can use the meshing command (simulation menu), this shows you the meshing without starting the simulator. The version that I can use isn't updated for years (version 7 or 9), so very likely that I can't read your .geo files (they changed the format).

You may also use the method of cutting away polygons to create an (isolated) ground plane in an infinite ground plane (as suggested in another thread).
