RF/Microwave lekaage around a pacemaker?

Does anyone know what regulatory limits of RF power density are allowed nearby to a heart pacemaker. I am especially interested in 915 or 2450 MHz electric field strengths allowed at the patient's chest surface. Thanks, Rich.

I do not know if anyone studied this problem. In general, a heart pacemaker is contained in a conductive (metal) enclosure, with electrode conductors extended and connected to heart muscle. This makes the device and the user highly vulnerable to any RF and low-frequency interference. The low-frequency airport gates can cause harm, therefore peacemaker wearers are warned not to enter.
The RF interference, at 915 and 2450 MHz, is generally known to be suppressed by conductive human tissue. It is again a good advice to avoid entering places where ANY interference exists.
As there are many uncertainties around this problem, peacemaker wearers should be very careful - they should not get close e.g. to MRI devices, magnetic AC fields, etc. Recently I have seen that peacemaker manufacturers started designing "MRI-resistant" devices; they may know details of your interest.

The two important parameters are the RS (radiated suceptability) of the pacemaker (enclosed) and the RE (radiated emmissivity) of the environment including the source. Thes parameters are defined as spectra (typical from 1kHx to 5 GHz) Mil Std 461 and 462 document some of these levels for military equipment

Thanks guys.
