How to create an oscillator for 61GHz!!!

Hi, ive got a simple question;)

How to create an VCO for 61GHz!?

please some suggestions.

It would probably be easier to design one at a lower frequency and multiply it. For example, 7.625GHz would be manageable, multiply it by 8 and filter to keep only the 8th harmonic.
Filters at those frequencies are fairly easy, oscillators are quite hard!

Brian.

thx for the fast reply.

do u got some books or sources to that topic?

i would be very pleased

gunn diode in some sort of waveguide cavity, or custom mmic in something like SiGe

No books I'm afraid. I think the highest oscillator I've designed was at 13GHz but that used a dielectric resonator and FET, I'm not sure if that technology will work at 61GHz.

As bif44 says, a Gunn diode oscillator may be a possibility but they are somewhat prone to drift with temperature.

"An oscillator for 61 GHz" is no specification!
Look to "www.spaceklabs.com" where we offer various options for different purposes.
One option is a Gunn oscillator, capable to deliver up to +10 dBm at 61 GHz; if you need a VCO, it may utilize an InSb Gunn diode for a direct tuning by DC bias. You can also have it tuned with a varactor. Gunn oscillators are excellent as transmitters or local oscillators in low-noise receivers.
If you need a very stable frequency, then you can have a phase-locked oscillator at one-third or one-fourth of your 61 GHz, then a diode multiplier to obtain ~ 0...+3 dBm output, or, an active multiplier for > +10 dBm output at 61 GHz.

If you want, however, to design such oscillator by yourself, the way to learn it is usually long. I have seen interesting papers describing various designs but no textbook on how to do it.

This raises an interesting question. At the speed of light, electricity travels only .19 inches per cycle of 61 GHz. Don't components need to be smaller than that, to make a circuit that can operate at that frequency? The physical size would have to be on the scale of components fabricated directly on a silicon wafer.

VCO / Transmitter

is their any general block diagrams or schematics for a oscillator solution with a gunn diode and a multiplier or some sources related to that?

Without serious specifications what exactly you want there is no way to respond
