CPW line fed by a perpendicular connector

Hello,

I need to feed a CPW line with an SMA connector mounted perpendicular to the CPW plane. Is this possible?

Thanks

You can feed it through the board from the bottom. Just make sure that the center pin of the connector doesn't extend too much above the board. Depending on your frequency, a small discontinuity will exist at the junction. It will probably be too small to worry about.

Thank you.

Assuming the feeding point IS NOT on (or close to) the edge, I simply do not know how to end the CPW. any picture reference?

Thanks again

I've never used a CPW with that feed, but if I was to use it, I would terminated the CPW with a radius of line-width/2. I would also fill in the ground plane with a radius of (line-width + 2*gap)/2. I'm assuming that the bottom side is NOT ground and that your SMA is the type with the 4 legs that will also extend through the board and be soldered to the ground.

In short, yes it is possible.

For a really good launch into GCPW consider the end launch connector offerings from Southwest Microwave. Their site includes discussions of how to use the connectors effectively.

There are other sources available.

Regards,

Azulykit
