matching for uwb antenna

时间:04-04 整理:3721RD 点击:
For narrow band antenna since they are tuned to a particular freq with some narrow band it is easy to calculate the matching network for the tuning. in case of uwb antenna since we are dealing with a wide band what can be done to improve matching (for example suppose for some range if the s11~ -5db how to improve the matching at that freq without deteriorating the matching at the the other frequency).
i am using 3-10 ghz bands

1. one possible option for this is to use multiple matching networks but then they will increase the insertion loss.
2. since i will be using a chip antenna not a micro strip antenna so i can not use any of antenna modification (like ground modification for better antenna matchings.)
3. it may be possible to do some modification in the board so possible to have distributive elements instead of lumped elements.

what are some possible ways to achieve this.

Matching narrow-band chip antenna with discrete components for 3-10GHz range is not practical. You can see dozens of uwb antenna designs on line most using the same principle: radiator of very wide cross section. No matching networks.

A fundamental law in antenna theory is about the relation of relative antenna size (in relation to wavelength) and bandwidth. You can't cheat it.

Only lossy antennas (e.g. active receiver antennas) can be electrical small and have also wide bandwidth.

adding one more point that the uwb chip that i am using on my board that itself is poorly matched, not able to see significant matching in the higher bands, what possible options i can use to match the chip output to the line. do i need to use stubs. any design or idea you can refer to get significant matching between the chip and the board.

You didn't clarify before that you are talking about a commercial "uwb" chip antenna. I guess it's the Johanson 3-10 GHz device.

It's designed with 50 ohm impedance, there's no simple way to match it to a different transmitter/receiver impedance. Transformers might be a way.

also what can be done for the matching of chip from the layout point of view.since the chip can not be altered the option is to play with the pcb layout. for these uwb is this more useful to use distributive elements for matching between the chip output and the other components on the board.

also by chip i mean the transceiver not the chip antenna
