Detect RF at Extremely High Range
I saw an RF meter on Amazon that covers ranges from 1MHz - 8 GHz.
Is there any device that detects RF above 8GHz?
I am complete noob in RF. Sorry.
You wanna measure RF Power or you would just detect the existence of RF signal ?
RF Power Meters can measure up to 18GHz or more and there are many manufacturers like Agilent,Boonton,Rohde-Schwarz,Giga Engineering etc. and others. You can also find good second hands on ebay..
yes there are all types of ways of detecting power, up to 100 GHz and beyond. But what LEVEL of power is important. If it is a high level (like above 10 milliwatts) a simple diode detector attached to an antenna will turn the RF power into a DC voltage. In certain popular frequency bands, like 2.4 GHz, you can trick a wifi card to detect the signal level....you can buy those on ebay for maybe S40.
IF the power level is much lower, you will need either a piece of equipment called a spectrum analyzer and an antenna, or at least a Log Detector integrated circuit.
here is a detector diode IC that appears to work to 43 GHz, and operates as low as 0.001 milliwatt input:

but the title of your post says "at high range". range means distance, and physics says that at high range the power will be very low, hence these simple ways may be unable to detect such a low rf voltage
