Antenna analysis[hlp needed]

Hello everyone;
I want to analysis a conical spiral antenna like the picture that attached.
What EM software can analyse this antenna? (HFSS or Ensemble or ADS or MWOffice or ...)
Thanks.

If I simulate this antenna, I use HFSS (the antenna have 3D structure).

I've tried AnSoft Ensemble and I not very like this software. I prefer to

work with Designer and HFSS.

Hello Paolone;
How can I model varying width of spiral strip? Have you any idea?

You must write a parametric description of the spiral strip, where the width is defined by the parameter a who is function of quote coordinate (or the lenght of Your strip).

Hello Paolone;
Can you upload a paper/example/article regarding this problem?
Thanks.

Ok, I now find an article wrote by a friend of the Microwave Lab and I will post You.

Hi, No one:

Your structure is quite complicated. Entering the geometry into a simulator can be difficult.

If you like, you can try the User Programmable Object from IE3DLibrary. it allows you to program complicated objects like this using whatever language you knows. Regards,

Hello Jian;
Can you explain me what is IE3DLibrary?

Hi, No one:

IE3DLibrary is part of the IE3D EM Simulator. It contains many parameterized objects. A user can connect different parameterized objects together to perform an IE3D EM simulation. one of the objects is called User Programmable Object. The User Programmable Object allows a user to write a program in whatever language to create polygons representing their geometry. Certainly, it requires the user knows something about programming. In this way, a user has the maximum flexibility to create parameterized objects. Regards,

hi,

i want to simulate a spiral antena (archimedean spiral) , but i don't know wat software( IE3D or HFSS or MATLAB )should i use to creat the geometry and simulate it with some good accuracy.Creating the archimedean spiral geometry seems to be a big problem to me.So i'm loking for some advice and opinions and possibly some tutorial notes frm u .

hoping for ur replies.

thanking you

with regards
abhi

Hi, abhi:

On IE3D, you can use the command INPUT->CREATE AND EDIT VERTICES to import the vertices of your spiral from an ASCII file with simple format. You can also use the .3dt (read Appendix for the format) file to transfer the pre-created polygon(s) from other software such as Excell or Matlab. Regards.

I would recommend using IE3D and reading the vertex nodes in from a text file. You can create the geometry file with Matlab or Excel and then import it in the 3D Text format of IE3D.

Keep in mind that IE3D probably cannot model the dielectric cone (as far as I know, the only shape available for finite dielectrics is the "brick" shape). You will need a full 3D code such as HFSS or CST Microwave Studio to model the dielectrics. However, IE3D will run much faster for this type of problem.

Hello,

I think for spiral antennas which are characterized by their wideband response, HFSS would be too time consuming to obtain the overall frequency response. I think the best method would be FDTD, MoM or TLM method. For such a problem I would recomment CST Microwave Studio, you can draw the geometry by using the 3D parametric curve macro. and the cone using premitive structures.

Best Regards,
Adel

anyone have the hfss file of sinuous antenna?
