How to draw voltage lines in HFSS?

hi,all
8O i have read the documentation,but in vain,i can't understand.
anybody help me?thank you

voltage line? what do you mean? the result?

I remember all is needed is to select an option from the pull-down menu and then type the coordinates in the upper left pane. Any particular error info you got?

thank you two,
when i define port, use lump port,i find in the help the impedence line and voltage line should be defined, but i can't understand, ansoft guies says so simple, maybe they should draw a picture.

hi,all
furthermore, where can i get hfss material in detail?

I have to agree that HFSS document doesn't make the concepts of these "lines" very clear. I can see that the impedance line is used for defining a "voltage" for the mode, calibration line is for fixing the phase. There is also the user-defined characteristic impedance.
These three things are necessary to properly define a wave and it phase.

yeah i agree with lousy

Dear all,

I don't know if I did it correct, but whenever I draw the integration lines (for wave ports), I'll always draw a 2D circle (or square) on the supposed position of the port, then I'll draw the arrow metal-to-metal. With the arrow head indicating +ve signal. I think it should work the same for lump ports and voltage lines.

BR,
Dave

In HFSS v9, select the existing wave port in the excitations section of the project tree, select the modes tab, select integration line column and choose new line. Then draw the line or input the end point coordinates.

Calibration lines on the port face allow the user to specify the direction of the E-field and therefore remove any phase ambiguity. This is important for models with multiple ports, since arbitrary assignments of the direction could add additional 180 degree phase shifts in the S-parameters between the ports.

Integration lines allow HFSS to compute the port impedance from the integration of the electric field. This gives two more impedances: Zpv and Zvi (in addition to the Zpi that is always computed from power and current).

Polarization lines make certain that the desired waveguide mode is set up. Only modes with the E-field in the direction of the polarization line will be supported in the 2D port solution.
