What's most useful on a CV - knowledge of ADS, HFSS, FEKO or CST?

I'm a young pos-doc working in antenna design now, but have an broad range of interests in RF, so I'm not necessarily going to stay in this field all my working life.

I need to do a job at work, and from what I gather, ADS, FEKO, CST and HFSS could all be used. The university has licenses for them all, and nobody really cares what one I use. Hence I'm wonding what is the best tool to have on the CV of an RF engineer, where the exact direction of my career is not set. I could also possibly learn Empire's XCcell, but this does not seem too popular in industry compared to the other packages, so I' less inclined to spend my time learning it.

Of course, I can use job sites, and searced for jobs wanting specific packages, but I don't think that gives the whole story. I'm interested in what others think.

Given a random job might call for knowledge of a specific package I don't happen to learn, is there any one of the popular packages which one could argue learning will convince an employer that I could easilly learn their favorite package?

I'm just trying to keep my options open for the long term, as in the short term at least, I don't think my requirements are beyond any of these packages.

Hello DeboraHarry

According to me all of the above are giants in the market. you can not single as the industry standard right now. More over if you really want to have a good attractive CV learn all of them.and most of the times a company is looking for prospective employers who know more than one.

coz each one is suited to specific application than others.

Hope that helps

Chachito.

If your CV will be on Antenna, CST and HFSS will be your horses...
But if your CV will also include " RF and Microwave Design", you should absolutely mention "Advanced Design System"..
It depends on which era you would like to work..

I totally agree with BigBoss. In addition, sometimes the software that works better is the one whose simulated results are closer to the measured data. However, current softwares are really efficient, and most times disagreements are only due to the fabrication tolerances, or on the source definition. However, nowadays designs are simulated with a lot of details, materials specs, envirment, filters, circuits... Therefore, HFSS and CST are completing their softwares with 2.5D solver packages, and ADS also includes a full 3D solver. Feko is seen to be more difficult to be used, but it may offer some good results for imaging, near field and large RCS objects...
