What is the nature of Waveport in HFSS

Hi every one.

Eventhough, I am not new to HFSS. But I haven't understand clearly about Waveport or Lumport in HFSS.

What is the nature of Wave port/Lumport? When we excite by Wave port/Lumport, they are Voltage or Current or E-field or H-field?

What kind of Mode does Waveport/Lumport use? TEM, TE or TM when we assign number of modes is 1, 2, 3...

The direction of Waveport/Lumport is the direction of propagation?

Can anyone tell me exactly?

Many thanks

I see that nobody has taken a stab at this question yet, probably because there is some confusion about it. My understanding is that a wave port analyzes the cross section you define, calculates the electromagnetic mode, and launches that into your model. The lumped port essentially just applies a voltage/impedance between two conductors.

Thank rrumpf for your answer!

How about when we assign number of modes for waveports? Then, what mode they use? Can you talk more clearly?

Lump port applied Voltage/Impedance between conductors, where I can find this argument?

Many thanks
