Eigenmode Solver Question

I have a question here hope somebody can answer it.
In EM software (e.g. HFSS), the Eigenmode solver can simulate the resonant frequencies of any random closing structures.
So why those frequencies are called "Eigenmode" from the simulator? Does it relate to the "Eigen value" or "Eigen vector" from Linear Algebra? What exactly the simulator is solving to get those solutions?
Looks forward to the clarification.
Thanks,
Lee

Hi
As far as I know about working of Eigen Mode solver in both CST and HFSS they just solve the total geometry mathematically on each defined mesh point.
So that name Eigen value comes from Linear Algebra or some mathematics which you have very rightly pointed.
This is the reason that proper mesh definition is very important for convergence and the right solution.
Yes
A generalized eigenmode problem -- the orthogonal modes supported by the structure. See, for example, Wikipedia.
