How to feed the structure of spiral antenna in HFSS
I am a student and I am using HFSS to simulate a spiral antenna.
(to check the bandwidth of the antenna)
But I am not sure how to feed the structure.
I tried it with a lumped Port between the two spiral arms.
It would be great if somebody could take a look.
Thank you very much
Florian
Hi,
I have simulated and build lots of spiral antennas for my thesis. I used CST but always simulated with a lumped port. The results were pretty good and almost equal to the measurements.
ciao
i have already seen it, and i think the feed is ok, you cannot get satisfied results?
can u upload your results by this model ?
i have seen your model ,and i think the lumped port
should placed in the substrate(rogerRT in your model),you can have a try, hope it helps
hey elomatic
please upload your thesis.
hello........
i'm a student and i'm finishing my final paper about
design logarithmic spiral antenna for GPR.
I red an article about spiral, they said that they used matlab to design spiral antenna and import it to ie3d.
can somebody help me how to import matlab to ie3d?? i tried to found it but i can't.
and how to measure radiation pattern & impedance in ie3d??
i want to ask too, can hfss ansoft measure impedance & radiation pattern of logarithmic spiral antenna??
thank you............

hi guys
i'm an undergraduate student too
and i'm trying to simulate this log spiral antenna i designed
but it asks for too much ram even 3 gb. of ram is not enough for this simulation
does anyone here have any idea to improve it?
by the way because it asks for toooooooooo much ram i had to split simulations like 2-6 ghz. and 6-10 ghz. and 10-14 ghz. and 14-18 ghz.
most of the simulations are done and ok but higher frequencies like 14-18 ghz. cannot be done.
hi ayy
i do my best! wait for reply!
thank you jafargholi
i'm waiting
hi ayy
you should decrease the Maximum Delta Energy in Solution Setup! and the Maximum Number of Path, but you must note that the solution must be converged by hfss in order to have a correct measurements!
i'll try
i hope it can be done this way
thank you
Has anyone managed to simulate a spiral antenna below 30 MHz using HFSS?
hi Catalyst i do it! but i suggest you that if you want to simulate any wire structure in frequencies below UHF in HFSS , you should do it very carefully and also simulate the structure with FEKO or SuperNEC!
where is this MAx Delta Energy, man? "you should decrease the Maximum Delta Energy in Solution Setup"
hi ayy2023,
to simulate a spiral antenna from 2~18GHz, you need a workstation which is running in 64bit and at least 16GB ram to simulate the spiral antenna. If you can't simulate, most probably you will need to build one.
Why don't all of you guys just use a "planar" em simulator?
If the antenna is planar why use a full 3D simulator?
Then all that memory on your computer will go toward meshing the antenna, not it's surrounding air.
Essentially turning a "Volume" formulation to a "Surface" formulation. Some structures do not lend themselves to this, but planar antennae do.
Phasedarray is right. You are trying to hit a thumbtack with a mallet. A planar EM tool would be a great deal more efficient for this application.

Dear all,
i have juz looked at the vivaldi antenna, and its impressive. However, how do u draw such an antenna in HFSS??... The drawing interface is not exactly very friendly. I am trying out some spiral inductors, which i have alot of difficulty in drawing.
Pls advise! Thank you..:)
hi mahojazz
i done my simulation with a pentium 4 and G Ram without any problem! i think you choose the refienment limit on your simulation that you need such processor!!
