What does negative value of the gain (ETheta) mean for patch antenna simulation?

Hi there,

The patch antenna simulations using Ansoft gave me the Gain(ETheta) in NEGATIVE value. May I know what does it implies?

Thanks for the reply

Negative gain usually implies an antenna with efficiency on the order of percent to 10's of percent. If the antenna is electrically small this may be expected. Patches typically are in the 4 to 6 dBi range.

If you are seeing negative gain there is probably something wrong.

Ya i oso suspect there are something wrong wit the patch antenna. But somehow some of the sources in internet also gave a negative value on the ETheta Gain, thats why i am wondering.
