advantage by using partial ground plane

can any one explani me what is the advantage by using partial ground plane when designing an antenna ...iam designing a tuning fork structure for UWB application in that partial ground plane is used...

Some times it increases the gain.
Check this antenna with and with out the partial GND plane and confirm.
you will find the resonance frequency shifting for these cases but check for gain only.
