what is mode degeneration

Hi,

Can anyone explain what is a mode-degeneration?

I need an explanation as to why my metamaterial antenna, which is made using a CRLH TL, is not resonating at the resonant frequencies outlined by the resonant condition found in the CRLH TL theories. Could it be due to a mode-degenration?
