acquisition range
In satellite PLL,
what is difference between acquisition Frequency range and
tracking Frequency range?
Thanks.
tracking range is wider than acquisition range, usually.
As indicated by the words:
- tracking range is the frequency range which can be "tracked" by the locked PLL without loosing lock;
- acqu. range is the range in which the PLL can acquire lock (if it is out of lock),
(as BIF44 said: the first is much larger)
1. It means tracking range is a lock-in range and
acquisition range is a Hold-in(capture) range ?
2. if I set frequency from lowest frequency
to highest frequency it will lock , is it a lock-in
range ?
3 How to set and measure capture range?
4. Why tracking range is large than acquisition range ?
5. What factor effect these two terms?
One should be careful with wording as different names are used frequently.
For my opinion the following is true:
1.) Tracking range identical to hold range (loop is and remains in-lock) and
acquisition range is identical to pull-in range (loop is unlocked, lock-in possible within pull-in time)
2.) This is the pull-in range. (Lock-in range means: Quick Lock-in within one beat cycle)
Answers to 3)...5) require much more detailed explanations/formulas. Try to find and read a good book.
LvW, could you kindly recommand some PLL textbook ?
i have one roland E. Best "Phase-Locked Loops",
