antenna measurements

Hi all!

Would anyone tell me, what`s better for antenna measurements:

- measurements in the anehoic chambers;
-measurements using time-gating analysis methods (Time Domain measurement), such as here: http://www.geozondas.com/main_page.php?pusl=12

or can you tell me the highs and lows of every method?

Why askin`? Easy. Our company wants to perform antenna measurements by oneself, so we need to choice the measurements method.

The important thing is that we have just got the standart antenna, spectrum analyser, generator. So we need only radioadsorbing material to begin the classical Frequency Domain measurement in anehoic chamber.

Is the TD measurement such a good thing to make us prefer them?

Unless you're targetting to UWB, classical frequency domain measurement should be the way to go. Anechoic chamber is
mostly a requirement of avoiding interferences with existing radio services. Depending on your enviroment, you
may be able to perform the measurements on the open field.

Yes, but about open field... it`s cold in Russia, in`t it? So, interferences with existing radio services is a serious problem for TDM... Anechoic chamber is needed anyway.

That`s another problem. How will TDM work with onboard antennas, that are just mounted? The parameters of an antenna in the vacuum is known from the CST project calculation results... Shall TDM measurement work correctly?

Added after 3 minutes:

Another one thing about measurements in open field... We should fight the reflection from earth anyway. So, we need the radioadsorbing material again.

I didn't yet understand your motivation of using TDM.

His motivation is the price i think, good anechoic chamber is very expensive as against such a mentioned system of Geozondas... But accuracy related to classical methods is unknown to me.

I have NO motivation of using TDM. I have the instruments for FDM analysis, I need only the radioadsorbing material. But the clients doesn`t want to give us the money to buy RAM. They tell us about TDM, which can be produced using Agilent Network Analyser. I think it`s not enough for us. I shall explain them, why should we make the good anehoic chamber and enjoy it...
