how to test power amplifiers?
can some one teach me how to test it?
the amplifier is 2128-bbs1c3chm (1-100MHz / 50 Watts / type N female 50 ohm).
it seems that i could test it by using a dummy load and a directional coupler but i don't know what kind of coupler and load i should use and how to connect those elements...
hi there,
firstly ... presumably you have a transmitter capable of driving the amplifier ?
you also need to establish how much drive will produce the 100W full power out
of the amplifier. It may be as little as 5 to 10 Watts. You should hopefully have
some specs on the amp that will give you that info.
then you need a with a dummy load power meter or a throughline power meter
with an external dummy load ..... either way, both power meter and dummy
load must be rated to handle the amplifier power levels.
With the drive transmitter output set well below the minimum drive level required
put power to the systen and see what sort of power levels you get out of the amp.
if all looks ok you can slowly raise the drive level from the transmitter towards the
maximum drive level set in the amplifier guidelines and observe the output on the
power meter.
cheers
