how to design a high gain power amplifier?
I am just begin to learn power amplifier design.
And I need to design a high gain power amplifier with center frequency of 10GHz.
and S11, S22 below-20dB。
Can anyone give me some hint on how to start with the design?
Thank you
What do you mean high power amplifier: 10W, 100W, 1kW?
There are totally different approaches for each of them.
Actually there is no requirement on the power.
There is only restrictions on S11, S22.
So would you please site the first one (10W) as an example, to show me how to design the circuit?
Thank you.
For 10GHz you need to get a board that has a large εr and/or has a very
low etching tolerance!
For good S11 & S22 you can try a Hybrid Coupler topology.

You will notice that the input and output are connected to 50Ω and that
the signal is coupled, thus a good impedance match.
But at 10GHz you will have a lot of issues, you better use HFSS or ADS Momentum
to simulate the Network. Use as much Strip Line matching as you can. And don't
expect to get it right the first time !
Good Luck
