Scaling DC Input Voltages

Hi friends,
i want to convert 0-5V DC voltage to 6-18V means if input is 0V then output should be 6V if input is 5V then output is 18V, can any one please tell is there any signal conditioning module to achieve this.

This process is called analog scaling and it can be reasonably easy done with opamps ..
Here is an appnote:

Give it a read ..

Hi JanP,
I think that the linked literature missed in eq. 2 a signum, than for the input signal its an inverting amplifier ...

thanks for your quick response, it is very helpful notes but it is not solved my problem i have designed the circuit(in multisim) using the same way what is there in the document what i observed is for the input 5V the output is 0V but i need 18V as output.

Open the attached file and play with resistors' values to achieve the required output range ..

Hi, these is before (as I wrote) the amplifying is for the signal inverting, not so as in cited "equation 2" assumed ...
What you need is a simple non inverting, Au=ca.2.4 amp, with added offset (to + Input) of +6V DC...
Other question is the selection the type of amp., than 18V output signal calls for a supply (and IC type) of >20V, maybe practically 24V, single supplyed(?).
I can not open the second attachement from JanP, if I repeated some thing; Im sorry...
K.

yes , i need an amplifier with gain 2.4 and offset is +6V(to input) with supply voltage is 24V.

Hi,
You can use two times inverting amps too, of course, than an inverting offseted amp has no influence of offset settings to the gain_ if their are changed, but you need (I think) only fixed values.

i tried in the same way, i built the circuit in multisim what my observations are i need 5.294V as bias voltage in simulator i directly give to the pin but in actual i have to generate that voltage (i have 5V supply line in the circuit) and another problem is offset say suppose if i need 18V output for 5V input i am getting 17.999 i dont want offset in mV it should be in uV. how can i generate 5.294 from 5V

Hey,
you have a supply of 24V-or not?
Take it pls for an adjustable voltage regulator as offset voltage source, or make a 6/8/10V regulator to drive from it a (offseting)potentiometer and so on...
Apropos; if I wrote offset_I have meaned "level shifting/offseting of input 5V" & not the usual offset settings for input offset voltages in mV range...

ya ya i am having 24V supply in my circuit, is there any opamp which will operate on +24V and -24V and i have one more doubt if i am having +24V how can i give -24V to the opamp.

Hi,
I dont know some newer type (but it can be exsistent as some industrial version) with so high supply voltages!
If you are good & tricksy, I think its possible to shift your working range into 0--24(or even 0-+18V) range with a relative conventional (+/-15V Type)opamp...
Make some thinking pls.
K.
