diffused infrared for high bandwidth communication

Does any have any experience with diffused infrared for high bandwidth communication?

If so please provide brief experience as far as performance is concerned.

I found that there are no limitation except for range. Which it can go pretty far.

Is it possible that this technology will replace many of the technologies used in 2.4GHz applications? In other words is 2.4GHz Wi-fi etc going to become obsolete because of diffused IR.

InfraCom - HOME

I assume you are connected with the company you are promoting? I have enough trouble getting my WiFi to work through walls so I won't be trying infra-red - diffused or otherwise!

As far as I understand, the technology is rather limited in terms of channel capacity compared to state-of-the-art RF communication. I think, it's mainly interesting for home applications.
Very unlikely, I think.

What? Im not promoting any company. I just heard of this technology recently. I was told by my manager to look into this technology as an alternate to a RF link. I was told it had 100Mbps BW (not throughput). I never heard of this technology before and wanted to know if any one had any experience working with it. That's all.

I can empathise with keith.
I think its about time something was done about 2.4Ghz.
It's becoming a bigger problem all the time.

Anything that helps can't be a bad thing but commenting
on this totally cold (never heard of this before) I'd say it sounds
like it would be limited to a very few applications if it worked reliably at all.
Still a nice Idea but I'd like to see a single product working -after all the
reliability of directed (I hesitate to say focused - looking for an alternative
to differentiate here...) IR isn't all that hot.

Now terrahertz frequencies....
