high quality DCR review

hello I have found these two articles describing a supposed high quality ssb receiver.
I would like to ask if it worth making it, or if a better solution can be made.

I am thinking of adding an rf amplifier at the front end (although I do not know about performance degrating) and also a greater range local oscillator to receive more frequencies.
