My mental model for a retro reflector is a simple corner mirror. You send photons, they bounce back to you. This model doesn't allow for colors. How does color information gets embedded into the reflecting light?
If you take a mirror and make a corner you end up getting same color. Why retro reflectors has colors? Does the white ones better in reflecting compared to the red or any other color ones?
Thx

- retro reflectors are usually glass or plastic parts with prismatic structured backside utilizing total reflection rather than mirrors
- red/yellow/orange/green reflectors are made of coloured glass/plastic. They are just filters.
Selecting a retroreflector color depends mostly upon what light color is used in the system. The receiving photodiode should respond to the LED light rather that to the stray daylight, etc. Therefore the retroreflector is designed as a color filter, supporting "our" color of light against "alien" light color.
