Ultra wideband flexible antenna

Hi all,

I am designing UWB flexible antenna. I came across the paper"A Flexible UWB Antenna Attachable to Various Kinds of Materials" in which nothing about substrate used is mentioned, although they designed flexible antenna using PET film. please help me how to excite the antenna? and is it possible without substrate?
