I plan to add a 100% failsafe protection against lightning to my cable modem and the equipment beyond.
The idea is routing up- and down-stream signals through separate ~1m optical fibers.
Both will have an emitter (laser or LED) and a photodetector at each end, plus the necessary gain blocks, and diplexers to avoid oscillation.
In case of a severe lightning strike I would just replace the fried components.
What kind or commercial model can you suggest for the emitters and receivers? They need to pass at least 700MHz and be linear. I'd rather use discrete components.
Thank you!
