R&S CMU200 RF output attenuation
it is written in the CMU200 documentation that we can add some attenuation on the RF output. "The softkey Ext. Att. Output defines an external attenuation (or gain, if the value is negative) at the selected RF output."
However I get gain if the value is positive, I've checked it with a spectrum analyzer.
Is it normal ?
Regards,
I believe, you misunderstood understand the purpose of the setting. If you define e.g. 6 dB external attenuator, the generator output will be increased by 6 dB to compensate for it.
This is a well known difference between similar instruments from various manufacturers.
R&S consider a negative value for external gain, and positive value for an external attenuation.
The similar Agilent/Keysight test instruments consider in the other way, negative value for loss and positive for external gain, which makes more sense for me.
Indeed. Finally, the aim of this setting is only to counterbalance the path loss, right? In this configuration, I can check if the power comply with GSM specifications. Do I understand?
