Wide range XO without adjustments

1. I wonder can it really oscillate on the whole HF by just changing the crystal?
2. Could it work by replacing the Xtal with an inductor or LC (parallel/series) as well?
3. Also, what if I want to implement a simple ALC on it, what mods should I do?

of course, but obviously, you will loose the stability the crystal affords
