HFSS Simple Patch Antenna S11 Mismatch Problem

时间:04-04 整理:3721RD 点击:
Hi All,
I am trying to simulate a basic patch antenna which is mentioned in attached paper called "Regular Model" and shown its measurement in pg: 276 - Fig2 (S11) and dimensions in pg:277 - Table 1.
I assigned a Waveport at the coaxial cable. And all other properties as can be seen in the attached hfss file. What would be wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Your coaxial feed comes from outside your expected simulation domain. You need to extend your vacuum box around it, the port should be on the outer surface of the box.

@PlanarMetamaterials Thank you for your response. I did that you mentioned and I got an error as below.

What would be the problem?

Ah, I assumed your setup would be Driven Modal.

Do you need to do Driven Terminal? If not, I'd recommend going with Driven Modal -- it should be easier for you as well, and you won't have this error.

When I changed it into Driven Modal, I got the error as below;

I am also attaching my model maybe you may check.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, as I stated in my first reply, the wave port needs to be on the boundary of the bounding air box.

Hi again,

I have created the model in the attached. However I am not sure if the model is correct.

I considered Waveport in Driven Terminal and drawn the geometry as shown:

So I there anything wrong to you?

Thank you in advance

I did not used HFSS, but I guess there must be examples for such antennas. You can start by altering examples, and make them from scratch to remember typical steps. For example, Sonnet lite have example of coaxial fed patch antenna.

Thank you for your message. I have already checked them and I am doing the same procedure, however still something seems to me wrong on my model.

Looks fine to me; are you still getting an error?

Actually I am in a trouble with S11 graphs. I seems always mismatched. There are 3 options while plotting:
dB, dB10normalize and dB20normalize. I want the results in dB but I am bit confused. Which one should I choose depending on what? When I plot with dB20normalize, it is quite close to the paper that I take reference.
Thank you very much for your kindness and help :)
