reg binomial array antenna in ie3d

dear all,

is there any provision to give different current feed to antenna elements presented in an array? say 5 element array. in that center should have 5 amp and the adjacent to have 2.5 and so on...

tell me the procedure ...

with thanks,

Hi, Kbmanick:

I think you need to design and optimize your feed network for it. You should try to use the SIMULATE AND FIND EXCITAITON feature of IE3D/MODUA. It allows you to find the output power at each port of your array. It should be useful for array's feed network and power distribution optimization.

Regards.

dear jian,

before the simulation itself i have to give different power or current to each elements. i could not get clear details. please explain me with an tutorial.

Hi, Kbmanick:

Due to coupling, you can't give exact voltage or current at each port. You may have designed the feed network for some targeted voltage, current or power distribution under some conditions. Normally, one condition is that you want to connect an antenna element at one of the output ports. However, there might be strong mutual coupling between the elements. The coupling between the elements may make each element not behaving like the single port "load" you design the feed network for. It will change the power distribution of the elements. From what I see, it normally can suppress the power distribution for the elements in the central region while the delivered power will be higher on the side elements.

We have implemented the PROCESS->SIMULATE AND FIND EXCITATION feature on MODUA for designers to find the true power distribution of an array after they connect the array elements with the feed network. You can find the discussion for using such a feature in Section 13.3 of the IE3D User's Manual.

Regards.
