PML stretched coordinator

I work at modelling using finite difference methods and I need to use PML stretchde coordinator.
Plz could any one explain to me what happened in this case?

i think there is no much difference between pml and radiation boundary conditions.i too couldnot exactly understand what really is the purpose of pml?
