Printed antenna issue in Sonnet

Hi,
I would like to replicate the results of the following paper in Sonnet. I have attached the photo of the antenna layout with ground plane. I am new to Sonnet and can not figure out how to simulate this structure in Sonnet. A part of the antenna has ground plane, while the meander part does not have a ground plane. How can this structure be implemented in Sonnet ?

Hi,

please any one has this antenna design in HFSS or Ansoft Designer or CST ?

I looked up the reference but could not find the details of the antenna dimensions, including the thickness of the FR-4. But, I can answer your question about the partial ground plane. You will need to add an extra layer of air under the FR-4, and then draw the patial ground plane as a polygon on the level between the air and the FR-4.

Since antennas are not the main thrust of Sonnet, I would stronly recommend that you read the antenna chapter in the manual before proceeding. There is also a nice Patch Antenna Guide on the sonnet user's forum which should get you going.

Please keep in mind that Sonnet cannot model the truncated substrate so any edge effects from the substrate edge won't be modeled (use HFSS or CST for this). Also, if the majority of the radiation is towards the horizon, Sonnet might not work well.
