antenna array hfss
I am trying to simulate a 3x3 antenna array in HFSS. I am only concerned about the response of the center element, and thus only need 1 wave port. All of the stacked patch antenna elements are fed with a bottom-fed coax probe. Is there a way to ensure a 50 ohm termination on a coaxial probe without inserting a wave port? I want to do this for the other 8 ports that I am not interested in to reduce simulation time. The purpose of placing the surrounding elements is to take into account some mutual coupling effects when tuning the center element.
Alternatively, I could use a periodic boundary condition. The final antenna array is 16 x 11 elements, so I'd imagine that an infinite array is a reasonable approximation. I've Googled around, but am baffled as to how I would implement this. Does anyone have any articles or know of any websites that I could visit to learn how to do this? Note that I am a first year graduate student, so I don't have the years of experience or considerable understanding under my belt as of yet.
Thank you in advance for anyone who can help!
Has anyone used a periodic boundary in HFSS for modeling a patch antenna array before?
Have you considered doing a lumped RLC on the other 8 feeds (50 Ohm resistance)?
I have, but I can't figure out how to do it properly. As a test, I created a 50 ohm coaxial cable and put a 5 ohm RLC circular resistance at the open end. At the input, I used a waveport. S11 should be at least -40 dB, but it is nowhere near that. I attached the design file (HFSS 11.1.2).
Does adding more waveports simply to use them as 50 ohm loads add to computation time?
Thanks,
Paul
Does anyone have any idea as to what I am doing wrong in the model above?
I am just trying to terminate the 50 ohm coaxial cable with a 50 ohm resistor using a RLC boundary condition.
hello, did you find a way to terminate the ports after your last post? I am also interested
hi Zangetsu57
i will like to have more explanation about your topic, design specification about feed network. and if possible the hfss file. it will be very helpfull for me. thank's
