Antenna + Reciprocity Theorem

Dear all,

Plz let me know how Reciprocity theorem relates to Antenna.Is it b'coz Antenna can be used both as transmitter as well as a receiver or some other points also are there considered?

Yes because same antenna can be used as transmitter and receiver and also if you change the position of source and cause of transmitting and receiving antenna same effect will be there on both the side.

Reciprocity theorem basically claims that two interacting fields have the effect on each other. Thus changing one field (e.g., the position of the transmitting antenna) will have the same effect on the system as changing the other interacting field (the receiving antenna) the same way.

if two sources a and b having fields A and B respectively then reaction of field A on source b is same as reaction of field B on source a.
because of the reciprocity theorem the receiving pattern of any antenna constructed of linear isotropic matter is identical to its transmitting pattern.

Reciprocity theorem in antenna context are usually used to refer to identical radiation pattern for reception and transmission (as GKG said) or that swapping the receiving and transmitting antenna results in the same received signal.
