How to change C code for interfacing16x2 LCD so that it works for 16x1 LCD?

Dear friends,
I wanted to interface 16X1 PICHO LCD to ATmega32 and wonder if a C driver program written for 16X2 LCD just works. Can someone clarify that for me?

it works fine only thing is its address will be 0x80 and wont have 0xc0 as 2nd line address... otherwise 16*2 program will work for 16*1 also.....

You know I have written a program for the HD44780 driver. The 16x1 LCD I have on hand has nothing written on it except PHICO D-0 99 18 94V-0 DATA VISION P72-1. Has anyone of you encountered this display?
