CST and HFSS optimisation : variable limitation

Hi,
is it possible to have a variable to be optimised but with only 2 possible solutions.
for ex, I have a structure having 6 variables to be optimised; while these variables can only be 3 or 6 mm. How can I define the optimisation in this case ?

Hi,
I did not understand your question. But yes you can optimize a variable in 'HFSS' using 'Parametric setup option'. If you do not know much about it. Search about it on this forum or post your question with a bit more elaboration here and i will try to help you.

first, I would like to thank you for your help
if we take an example of only 1 variable. This variable could have 2 possible solutions, that is 1 or 2 mm and therefore we want no other possibilities. let's say that this is defined by the customer.

How to define the optimisation in this case ?
the aim would be to prevent the optimiser to look for other possible solutions. For if we launch an optimisation defining an upper and lower limit for this variabre, HFSS or CST may give a solution that fits between 1 and 2 mm which is not acceptable.

In CST you can do it with the Optimize function of the transient simulation for example... You can choose all the parameters you like and by adding a max value, min value and the number of samples.In this way you can give him the numbers he should simulate.

The other possiblity is to use the Parametersweep. The Parametersweep only calculates fixed values and does not use an iterativ solver.

I hope you had an answer to your question, because i am having the same problem.
CST MWS (2009) [transient solver] for some reason would not permits you to specify less than 3 samples for optimization of a single variable!
