I have used a 2D FDTD matlab code from Hagness/Taflove to compute the scattered near field from a vertically orientated conducting cylinder. I have then computed an equivalent model from a commercial 3D MOM package and calculated the scattered H filed in the near field at the same location as in the FDTD model(i.e. apart from not extending the cylinder to infinity, the FDTD and MOM model characteristics are the same). The results are shown in ../imgqa/eboard/EM/EM-p5evgnkkkxr.png
Apart from the magnitude difference, there is some similarity in the shape of the H field.
The question is: can one even do this exercise of comparing a 2D FDTD model with a 3D MOM model ? Does the variation in the results as shown in the graph, make this exercise invalid ?
