Circular waveguide excitation - not using some of the commercial simulation tools

Hello,
Usually one can see circular waveguides to be excited in certain waveguide modes. But, how REAL waveguides are being excited via current sources? I'm particularly interested in exciting TE01 mode using a thin (or arbitary fat!) wire of a certain current density distribution in order to excite this mode. No book, or article, shows exactly how to excite precisely waveguides. It's a sum of knowledge and experience. Thanks in advance for the answer!
The answer will be used in order to excite, via a FDTD code that I've developed, to simulate TE01 mode in a circular waveguide. I don't want to use the exact transverse plane in order to simulate the mode, because it's not so real, but an artificial trick.
