Balanced port excitation for antenna(hfss)
I am currently trying to model the effect a balun has on a dipole. I have access to the s4p file of the balun. I modeled the dipole in hfss, exported the s-parameters to a file. I subsequently imported my hfss results & balun s4p file into Microwave office. The problem is that I used a lumped terminal port in hfss for my dipole. This is obviously not balanced a balanced port. How do I model a balanced port in hfss? The balun has two(2) output terminals that need to be connected to two input terminals of the antenna.
Best regards,
Welcome ay113907,
Why not? If it's not balanced, perhaps try exciting two modes. One of them should be correct. Unless I am misunderstanding your setup - If I am, please provide more details.
Modal driven lumped port is perfectly balanced, especially in the case of a simple dipole and feed at the center.
Further clarification on earlier post:
Here is the problem I am having:
When I import the s4p file of the balun into microwave office and make it a subcircuit I realize it has 4 terminals (if I can call these terminals!). I know one of input terminals should be connected to the excitation and the other input terminal should be grounded. This leaves two terminals at the output to be connected my dipole in microwave office whose s4p file was exported from hfss. I modeled my dipole in hfss using driven terminal. when I view the dipole in microwave office it has only one input. Thus I have 2 terminals of the balun to connect to only one 1 input of the dipole (in Microwave office). I am not knew to em modeling but this is the first time I am trying to combine two s4p files in this way. Any help will be most appreciated.
