Using FEKO to model aperture-coupled microstrip antenna
Is FEKO the right Simulation software for designing and analysing an APERTURE-COUPLED MICROSTRIP ANTENNA?
Is there a software which is a hybrid of FEM and MoM?
Yes, the FEKO website says that it has the ability to use hybrid MOM/FEM:
http://www.feko.info/feko/fem.html
I have not used it, so I cannot say if it is has the best source types to model the aperture coupled patc_h. It can handle dielectric layers using a variety of methods such as surface equivance, volume equivalence, and the Green's function for multilayer dielectrics.
IE3D is a MoM tool that is very good for microstrip antennas. It has several port types including extension and localized ports for transmission line feeds.
HFSS and CST Microwave Studio are good FEM and FIT tools that can handle general 3D geometries and have wave ports and lumped ports.
Hi Kivet,

With the link above, you will find they are using FEKO to model aperture-coupled microstrip antenna. This is the winner of FEKO student competition 2005. You may also get the source code from the webpage.
I've heard there is some other commerical code doing hybrid MoM and FEM, but I couldn't remember the name. As for FEKO, it is the so called FE-BI (finite element-boundary integral), which is quite often more efficient and easier to use, compared to the absorbing boundary condition (or PML) used in HFSS.
The site provided by RayFEKO contains good material which i'm sure will help me alot. could there be any other site or material like the one provided in the site?
singula of http://www.integratedsoft.com/ is another hybrid MoM-FEM tool.
Hi Kivet,
http://freespace.virgin.net/kent.sweden/index.htm
2003 FEKO student competition winner webpage, which contains the source code for PIFA simulation and antenna placement on a car using UTD.
If you have access to FEKO member area, you can find much more good examples for all kinds of applications (click on "member" and log in)
http://www.feko.info/
Also, there are good examples and materials with FEKO installation. Please refer to SFEKO\examples\cad_input (CADFEKO examples) and SFEKO\examples\text_input (more than 40 text-based examples). The descriptions on these examples and the detailed user manual as well as Getstarted.pdf can be found in SFEKO\doc.
Hello everyone, I have to vehicular antenna design for a university thesis.
I have to evaluate the performance of 2 antennas, individually, based on the location that can have on a vehicle. In the first case the antenna is long 1/4 wavelength and in the second case is long 5/8 wavelength.
The parameters I have available are:
1) reference impedance of 50 OHM
2) band center frequency 470 MHz
I want to get results that are: the gain, radiation pattern, bandwidth adaptation.
I should point out that I use the simulator FEKO for this project.
Since it is the first time I use Feko, someone can help me or give advice for this project?
Thanks to everyone for the helpful and good day!
Hello
