hfss modal mode

Hallo,

I try to simulate the scattering field for a infinite extended dielectric plane using HFSS v.10.

I used a airbox with master/slave boundaries (side walls) & PML (top and botton walls) as BOUNDARY CONDITION and PLANE WAVE excitation.
See also attached hfss-file.

The results are not the ones expected. Does anybody have any idea of where my mistake lies?

Any kind of help or suggestions are very welcome!

Thanks in advance,
Flo

yes, there is something mysterious in the setup of structures in HFSS with plane wave exciation. Also, there isn't much about it in the manual or the online help. CST Microwave Studio, can handle this problems very easily and without any precautions. I don't know why HFSS has such implications

Yes, you made a mistake within the design:
The Master/Slave Boundaries repeat the dielectric and the airbox, but not the PML.
Your model is an infinite dielectric plate with an infinite airbox (both in two dimensions) and right in the "middle" there is a small PML boundary on top and bottom.
Do the following:
Visualize the PML-boxes. Now you see a stack of three boxes: PML1, Airbox, PML2.
Create a rectangle on each side of the stack, covering all boxes. Then assign M/Sbound to these rectangles (and of course delete the old M/S).
So the PMLboxes are also extended infinitely.

Hi everyone,

I have a problem. I am simulating a FSS cell in CST Studio and I want to calculate the reflection coefficient in a frequency range with a plane wave (TEM mode). I am using a waveguide, but I am not sure which mode I am exciting with a waveguide. Any of you can you tell me how to excite a TEM mode with a waveguide port.

Thanks in advance,

David

Thank you very much
