IE3D - Jian if you're still around

时间:03-25 整理:3721RD 点击:
i've modeled a PIFA type structure in both HFSS and IE3D.. I am experiencing large differences between the two models. I have also built the model and my measurements are close to my HFSS results.

this design lends itself well to IE3D and would love to be able to simulate this structure in that environment.

the model is intended to resonate near the AMPS and PCS bands. however IE3D does not predict this result.

Jian (or anyone else that cares) do you mind checking the structure to insure i've set it up correctly (the vertices etc)

attached find the file

thanks

Hi, Gordon: I will get back to you. Thanks!

Hi, Gordon:

I checked your model. Everything looks ok. IE3D should yield very good results for you as it is. However, I believe you may have missed some information. That is the strip thickness. I see you use the default strip thickness. For microstrip antennas, strip thickness is not critical. You just use the default value and it will give you good results because strip thickness does not affect it much. However, for PIFA especially those made from aluminum for base stations. The thickness of the metal is normally quite big. You need to build the thickness model for it. You can try to build the thickness or let me know the thickness of the metal. You are supposed to get good results if you do so. Regards.

Gordon, can you please upload your HFSS model and measurement results also? This is interesting.

loucy,

jian and i have been going back and forth regarding a bug that appears to be in a meshing script that IE3D uses. this bug should be corrected shortly says jian.

this bug appears only to be a problem when using a finite gp and depends on how you build via's.

the same model built in IE3D with default z=0 metal definitions results in an accurate model. be careful when defining via's with finite gp.

jian is always lots of help and he identified this bug very quickly.

Hi, Gordon:

We just fixed the bug. The update will be released as ie3d 11.57 after some tests.

Regards.

gordon..
may i know wat material did u use for ur PIFA?
is it FR4 for the top patch and aluminium for the ground plate?
